That's a fair statement… You could put away $3000 and it would earn 5% per year. After three years you would have $3900. If the car you purchased didn't need any work, you would be ahead. That would be amazing because all cars need repairs.
The reality is in your head it's awesome, but most of the time people that can barely afford their payment can't afford to fix their car. In that circumstance it doesn't matter if it's $1000 or $3000 if it means they may lose their car.
You might be able to afford some repairs, but a warranty guarantees you can afford all repairs. Plus, if you try to sell your car a year before your warranty is up, you can sell it private-party potentially earning thousands more than your Warranty cost. You don't have to worry that they're going to come back to you because you sold them a car with a warranty and any repairs it needed, you always Fixed when needed.
